Things to Make the Country Better #4
I have heard a countless suggestions regarding immigration. Some good. Some bad. Some bright. Some not so bright. I have my own ideas too.
I get to see much of the damage, that is related to criminal immigration, first hand. I have also had to deal with an unpredictable system that is difficult to understand and beleaguered by incompetence. I still contend however that a messed up legal immigration system is not that big of a problem. It could be fixed quickly. Criminal immigration is the source of all kinds of problems. But, the magnitude of those problems could be controlled without a single new law. Because even criminal immigration is the symptom of a larger problem: Border Security.
Since March 9, 1916, our border with Mexico has been a problem we have failed to deal with effectively.
I contend that securing our border with Mexico would make many related problems insignificant.

I would add to this that citizenship should matter. Other than running for public office, being a citizen doesn’t seem to have any benefit over a non-citizen.
Maybe we should be given a choice, have the responsibility and benefits of beign a citizen (whatever they may be). Or choose not to be a citizen and not get those benefits.

I not only don’t want to make that part of the same discussion, I want immigration and border security to be totally separate issues.
I think more progress could be made handling border security as a stand alone problem.
And no, citizens are not set apart enough. And civic duty is no longer seen as duty.

In today’s day and age it only makes sense: 1. Illegal immigration; 2. Disease control; 3. Drug/Terrorist control.

BWH, your logic is, well it’s logical so it won’t make a big hit with the Obama Admin or Congress. They hardly ever act logically.
